  1. The Orchid Society show photographer’s outing is at Edith Kanaka’ole Tennis Stadium on Thursday, Aug 6th,  1pm to 4:30.  Admission $4.
  2. Mauna Kea and Keanakolu camp outs Aug 15 & 16.
  3. Upcoming HPC meeting Aug 20, 7pm Kamana Senior Center.  Election of new officers, Orchid Show show & tell, etc.

July Newsletter and Meeting Announcement

The July newsletter is here. Thanks to George Jensen for putting it together.

July meeting will be Wed the 16th at 7pm, Kamana Senior Center.  The meeting will feature a presentation by Andrew Bisset on the topic of photographing orchids and post editing work.

George needs photos for the newsletter!  If you have photos you’d like to display in the August newsletter, please send them to him ASAP.

2008 CCCH Allen-Tarleton Contest

FYI, it was announced that anyone wanting to submit an entry to the A-T contest MUST submit it at the next meeting in July, period, no last minute entries this year. Just to be sure everyone has access to the rules for the A-T contest, Chris asked that I request that you post them in a nice conspicuous spot on the HPC web page.  I haven’t searched but I suspect they are still posted or a link is posted there  already from 2007, the link I have is for the 2007 rules, eveyone in the know, including the Maui guys have confirmed that there is no change in the rules since the 2007 rules were posted.   So here’s the link I have:

Wed, June 18, 7pm, Kamana Senior Center, Kamana St in Hilo.  From Chris Butcher:

We will have a swap meet at this meeting. Bring any equipment or accessories and texts that you want to sell. Now come on. We all have something laying around that we no longer use.

We will also have the new 15 minutes of fame slot so if you haven’t got something ready yet, here’s your chance.

HI Art Magazine presents

FACES of HAWAII
PHOTO PORTRAIT COMPETITION

In 2008, HI Art Magazine will be holding a photography competition featuring portraits of the faces of Hawaii. The selected entries and artist’s statements will be compiled into a book and published. The book will be for sale to all participants and available world-wide. The top 25 accepted entries will be exhibited at idspace in Kurtistown, HI during the month of December, 2008. The entire body of selected works will be exhibited in a virtual gallery exhibition on-line in the Winter 2009 edition of HI Art Magazine.

A full prospectus is available on-line at www.hiartmagazine.com.

Entry Date: On or before September 1, 2008
Exhibition: December, 2008

Juror: Darrell Orwig, Director of the Schaefer International Gallery at the Maui Arts and Cultural Center.

Eligibility: Hawaii residents of any age.
